Software

Laser & Measurement Devices can provide a full range of Software programs to support MDL products.

The software range includes data logging systems, simple 2D profiling in real time, comprehensive 3D burden analysis and borehole deviation surveys. Packages are designed to support the full range of equipment, including Quarryman®, LaserAce® Scanner, LaserAce®300, Boretrak® Units and C-ALS.

Quarry 4

Quarry 4 allows mine managers, engineers and shotfiriers to design quarry face layouts, calculate minimum burdens and edit unwanted data. Final results and plots can be provided typically within 30 minutes of observation.

Quarry 4 is a windows based modelling software supporting the full range of MDL equipment. Quarry 4 provides a full graphic display of survey data with many features including; graphical editing, annotation, display of stations, printed plots, actual shothole display and full point information.

Full 3D views of the face model are available providing accurate burden analysis and blast design. Details such as weak burden and actual shothole location can be quickly and easily displayed and interpreted for fast and efficient interpretation. The user has total control of the detail shown in the 3D view and the position from which the face is to be viewed.

Full reporting facilities are included to provide hard copy backup for each blast. Quarry 4 enables the user to access a complete blasting package from initial survey and design, hole positioning, borehole checking and final blast analysis.

ModelAce

MDL’s ModelAce software  is designed to handle point clouds generated by the highly versatile range of MDL equipment including the LaserAce® Scanner, C-ALS and VS-150.

Data sets can be viewed individually or merged together to form a single model using standard survey techniques. Simple editing tools are included to delete points, reduce density etc.

Signal strength is automatically recorded by the instrumentation and can be used to colour the point cloud, thus revealing features automatically.

Line and points can be digitised in 3D from the point cloud and exported to 3rd party CAD and mine design packages. The model can be dynamically rotated in full 3D for viewing from any direction.

ModelAce has been designed to produce survey results within minutes of completing a scan to provide the user with fast, easy to read results.

Pocket BurdenAce®

Pocket BurdenAce® is a very simple to use real-time, graphical profiling system for PDA devices running under Pocket PC.

The PDA is linked to the highly popular, hand-held, MDL LaserAce® 300 instrument, which measure ranges and inclinations up to 300 metres.

The software on the PDA reads the data from the LaserAce® as the operator surveys a profile of the feature in front of them. The points can be measured in any order and once completed the screen will show a profile through the points in real-time.

The user can enter a proposed drill angle, planned burden, stemming depth and crest to collar offset. As these values are varied the profile is updated in real-time to show depth and burden for each point and highlight the point of minimum burden.

Not only can each profile and depth-burden table be saved on the PDA for downloading to a PC later but a hard copy can be “beamed” directly from the PDA to a printer which has an infra-red link.

Boretrack® 3D

Boretrak® 3D is designed as a standalone software package to read and process data from MDL’s highly successful Boretrak® hole deviation systems. Holes can be viewed individually to check for any wander or deviation. A set of holes can be displayed together to check for any divergence and convergence.

Full 3D viewing of the data allows for quick and unambiguous checking of data sets and full reporting is included which highlights minimum and maximum separations.

MDL Logger

MDL Logger is specifically written to record data from the full range of MDL’s surveying instruments. The software is available in two versions:

• For the highly popular range of Pocket PC devices such as the Compaq iPaq

• For the Ruggedised Psion Workabout™

Simple to follow prompts for Job Names, Features, Instrument and Target Heights, mimic the prompts on MDL’s motorised laser scanners. Each shot is displayed on the screen before being written to file in MDL CDU format for downloading and further processing in MDL PC software packages.

2D Profiler

MDL’s 2D Profiler is a simple to use PC software package to assist in the design of borehole positions and blast parameters. Data can be downloaded from the MDL Quarryman® or LaserAce® data logging systems and once transferred to the computer, the software immediately creates a series of graphical profiles. The user can then vary the drill angle, collar offset, planned burden etc. and the profile is updated in real time. A tabulated list of depths and burdens is also created and updated at the same time. Menus are available in several languages and profiles can be printed individually or as a single batch process.

Convert

MDL’s Convert software is a utility package to read, edit and output MDL CDU file formats.

Each file is loaded into an editing screen where records can be deleted and codes and features inserted as required.

Various output formats are supported including ASCII XYZ/YXZ, AutoCad DXFTM, Surpac str files etc. Other data formats can be included on request.
